coating systems

A product does not, by itself, constitute a system. Rather it is one of a number of products used together to create a system.

products

Not all products are single component.  Some products are plural component systems, meaning that they are two liquid parts (Side A & Side B) which are packaged separately and then mixed together at point of application.  Once mixed, they react chemically, cross-linking to form a mixed product.  Mixed products react at different rates.  Some mixed products are slow cure while others are ultra fast cure, becoming a solid coating in seconds.

systems and their products

A system may include a number of products, both single component and plural component.  The first product used is usually a sealer or primer which reduces pinholing and chemically converts a substrate, making it compatible with subsequent coatings.  A base coat is applied over the primer.  An additional topcoat is used where high chemical resistance, colour stability, or cosmetic appearance is a factor.
