Chlorine can wreak havoc on polyurethane and polyurea formulations. Even newer chemistries like polyaspartic exhibit streaking and blanching. Thin-flim roller applied topcoats prove problematic to patch. Clear-coats offer ony limited and unreliable solutions.
The deterioration of polymers by chlorinated fluids is cyclical. The byproducts created by first-phase deterioration in turn trigger a second-phase reaction which again produces byproducts which cause the first-phase reaction to begin a repeating cycle. The reults vary and mimic photoxidation and thermaloxidation by yellowing the material or producing a whitish scale-like substance. Prolonged exposure can result in the polymer chain dissolving and converting into a glue-like substance.
SprayBuilt has a solution. ChloriPur is currently the industry's only fast-set polymer coating which breaks this cycle and can withstand submersed service in chlorinated fluids.
ChloriPur was originally developed for use in chlorinated water treatment facilities however, ChloriPur as a swimming pool coating has far exceeded the original intended use. The product has been reformulated to create a commercially viable product for the swimming pool application.
