Swimming pool paints and liners have their limitations. Vinyl liners dry out in the sun and tear, resulting in costly repairs. Rubber pool paint only lasts one to three years at best. These are not true containment liners. Epoxy chemistry is good for crack repair but is not truly UV resistant. Epoxies chalk and discolor over time. Patching is also problematic with epoxies.
The attempt by polymer coating manufacturers to respond with polyurethane and polyurea coatings has failed. Chlorine dissolves these coatings and aromatic systems discolor (yellow).
